Violation of election code: Posters still on display in city

Despite imposition of the code of conduct after the announcement of Assembly elections, political posters are still visible on roads in the city. Besides, defacement of public property with paintings giving information about various government schemes goes on unabated.

Although the Municipal Corporation removed most political hoardings from major intersections and roads in the city, these can still be seen in streets.

Some month-old posters calling people to attend the Majah Fateh rally of Arvind Kejriwal, scheduled on December 14 are also on display. The MC did not remove these posters. Several such posters pasted on the signage can be seen on the Majitha road.

Moreover, political parties have again started displaying posters in violation of the poll code. A Congress leader, Karmajit Singh Rintu, displayed his posters recently.

Following imposition of the code of conduct, Deputy Commissioner Basant Garg had ordered removal all posters, hoarding and wall paintings of political parties on January 4. The advertisement cell of the MC removed a large number of hoardings from the city. Almost 12 days have passed since the DC gave orders, but political parties continue to deface the city with posters.

However, people are appreciating the Election Commission for checking defacement in the city. Joginder Singh, a resident said, “The city looks beautiful without hoardings and posters. The administration should strictly implement the code of conduct so that politicians do not deface walls again. Remaining posters should also be removed from every nook and corner of the city.”
