The city police today booked a Jalandhar-based woman among the three persons in separate incidents on charges of fraud and Human Trafficking Prevention Act.
Those booked were identified as Tanu Sharma, a Jalandhar-based travel agent, Sunny Kumar and Lakhwinder Singh of Naag village colony on the Majitha road.
In her complaint, a local resident Karambir Kaur stated to the Division C police station that Tanu Sharma came to her house and said she helped people in getting visa. Tanu said she could send the victim to Australia. Lured by the offer Karambir gave Rs 6.50 lakh for getting an Australia visa to the accused. She said Tanu demanded Rs 10 lakh for the visa. However, she neither provided her the visa nor sent her abroad or returned her money.
Following her complaint a case under Sections 420 of the IPC and Section 13 of the Human Trafficking Prevention Act has been registered against Tanu Sharma in this connection. No arrest has been made so far.
Meanwhile, in another incident Gurmeet Singh was duped by Sunny and Lakhwinder Singh, who promised to send him to Singapore. The accused took Rs 2.55 lakh from Grumeet in this regard. After repeated assurances, when they did not send him abroad, Gurmeet lodged a complaint with the police.
A case under sections 420, 120-B of the IPC and Section 13 of the Human Trafficking Prevention Act was registered against the two following an investigation conducted by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dr BK Singla. “Raids are being conducted to nab them,” police officials said.
