AMRITSAR: The three- day 66th World Sikh Educational Conference began at Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School, GT Road, helmed by Chief Khalsa Diwan Educational Committee.

The three- day 66th World Sikh Educational Conference began at Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School, GT Road, helmed by Chief Khalsa Diwan Educational Committee. The conference attracted a large number of renowned educationists and eminent personalities from social, political and religious spheres across the world.

The event commenced with an early morning bhog of akhand paath in newly built Gurdwara Sri Kalgidhar Sahib and the rendition of the sacred Shabad Kirtan by Bhai Lakhwinder Singh, Hazoori Raagi, Golden Temple and Kirtan Jatha of Bibi Prabhjot Kaur and Bibi Gunwant Kaur from the school itself. The ardas was performed by Giani Gurbachan Singh, Jathedar, Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

The afternoon proceeded with the exhibition of books on subjects of Sikh art and artifacts, educational techniques and traditional musical instruments and weapons used by Sikh martials. Literary works of noted Sikh scholars were also displayed, along with a special exhibition of organic eatables, seeds, fertilisers and other products.

Edu Tech, a special exhibition on scientific and innovative learning and teaching techniques, was also the highlight of the day. It featured devices along with hi-tech glass laptop models for student observation. Different models made on themes shortlisted by students like traditional villages and fairs, steam drive generators et al were also displayed in the exhibition. The experts briefed the participants about the advantages of Organic and Natural Farming.

A seminar was conducted on various resourceful topics like Sikh educational institutes and employment opportunities, principles of Sikhism related to environment and organic farming, challenges faced by World Sikh Society, Sikh culture and role of communication. The participating educationists stressed on the need to make the present generation connected with their rich tradition and culture.

The panel of experts included Sikh scholars Dr SP Singh, Santokh Singh Sethi, Dr Inderjit Kaur, President All India Pingalwara Society, Kundan Singh Sajjan from Canada and Varinder Singh Walia, Chief Editor, ‘Punjabi Jagran’, who were also the chief guests.

A Light and Sound Show based on the life history of Guru Gobind Singh under the title ‘Wah Pargatiyo Mard Agamra’ was presented in the evening. Directed by Narinder Sanghi, it was dedicated to the 350th anniversary of the 10th Sikh Guru.

Shwait Malik, Member, Rajya Sabha, and Sonali Giri, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, graced the occasion with their presence. The eminent personalities, who were present on the occasion were Dhanraj Singh, Vice President, Narinder Singh Khurana Secretary, Chief Khalsa Diwan Charitable Society, Nirmal Singh, Resident President, Dr Jaswinder Singh Dhillon, Secretary, Educational Committee, and students and teachers of the various schools under the society.
