Youth held for ‘raping’ schoolgirl

AMRITSAR: The Cantonment police have arrested a youth for allegedly raping a teenage girl.

The Cantonment police have arrested a youth for allegedly raping a teenage girl. The 16-year-old girl stated in her complaint to the police that she was a student of Class XII in a private school in Rani Ka Bagh. She alleged she came in contact with the accused in April 2017 through a common friend who also studied in the same school.

According to her, accused Gursharanjit once sent some sleeping pills through her friend, asking her to mix it in eatables before serving dinner to her parents so that they could meet ‘properly. “I refused to oblige him so he started threatening and harassing me. Around a month ago, on his insistence I mixed those tablets in the eatables following which Gursharanjit came at night and raped me,” she said.

She alleged that the accused started harassing her continuously so she narrated the entire incident to her family following which a case was registered.

The police said the accused was arrested and further investigation was under way. Amandpreet Kaur, investigating officer, said she was trying to ascertain the role of the victim’s friend in the case.

A case under Sections 376, 506 and 120- B of the IPC and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act against Gursharanjit Singh of Gurala village in Ajnala. The victim’s friend has also been booked.
