Bathinda, October 15
The CIA-2 wing of the Bathinda police today arrested a driver and cleaner of a truck with 125-kg of poppy husk at a naka at Kataar Singh Wala village.
The police have also booked the owner of the truck, who is absconding. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at the Kotfatta police station.
Investigating officer Gurinder Singh said, “We received a tip-off regarding the accused. Both were carrying poppy husk in the truck from Rajasthan.”
The police set up a naka at Kataar Singh Wala village and intercepted the truck (PB-11CF-3929).
The police arrested driver Avtar Singh, a resident of Ramgarh in Sangrur district, and Sunil Singh, a resident of Rambagh area, Barnala, he added.
Gurinder Singh said the accused had purchased poppy husk for Rs 4,000. The police have also booked owner Sewak Singh, a resident of Barnala.
The arrested accused were today produced in a court and were sent on one-day police remand.
In other incident, the Sangat police today arrested Mandir Singh, a resident of Jai Singh Wala, with 2.5-kg of poppy husk from Mashana village.
Investigating officer Surjit Singh said the accused was booked under the NDPS Act.
In another case, the Thermal police have arrested a woman with 80 intoxicant pills and 8 bottles of intoxicant syrup. The accused has been identified as Neelam Rani, a resident of the area near DAV College, Bathinda.
