Bathinda, April 25
Nine cases under the Excise Act have been registered in the past 24 hours in the district. In the first case, the police recovered 20 boxes of country-made liquor of a Haryana brand from two persons during a checking at Mehraj village.
One of the accused, Bhagwant Singh, a resident of Mehraj, was arrested while Sukhmander Singh, a resident of Barnala district, succeeded in running from the spot.
The police have registered a case at the Rampura (City) police station.
In another case, the police have recovered 480 bottles of country-made liquor of a Haryana brand from an Esteem car at Rama Mandi while the accused managed to run from the spot.
The police have registered a case against unidentified persons at the Rama police station.
The police also recovered 60 bottles of country-made Haryana brand liquor from two persons on a two-wheeler at Singo village.
The police nabbed accused Yadwinder Singh and Jaswant Singh, residents of Jagah Ram Tirath village, while police have also booked Happy Thekedar from Kaliawali in a case registered at Talwandi Sabo.
In another case, the police seized 60 bottles of country-made liquor from two persons on a motorcycle during a checking at Malkana village.
The arrested accused have been identified as Darshan Singh and Jaswinder Singh, residents of Malkana village. A case has been registered against at the Rama police station.
The police seized 200 litre lahan by raiding a house at Chauke village. Accused Gurcharan Singh escaped from the spot.
In another incident, the police seized 45 litre lahan from a house at Chauke village. Accused Darshan Singh escaped from the spot. Both these cases have been registered at the Rampura Sadar police station.
The police have booked accused Hardeep Singh, a resident of Bangi Deepa, during checking and seized 24 bottles of country-made liquor at Bangi Nihal Singh village. The accused escaped from the spot.
In another incident, the police seized 22 bottles of a Haryana brand liquor and a motorcycle at Chak Ruldu Singhwala village while the accused managed to escape from the spot.
A case against unidentified persons has been registered at the Sangat police station.
A resident of Pathrela village has been arrested by the police with 10 bottles of Haryana brand liquor during checking at Pathrela village. The accused has been identified as Gursewak Singh. — TNS
