Abandoned sewerage work irks residents

BATHINDA: The abandoned sewerage work in Guru Nanak Dev Nagar has made the lives of residents miserable.

Bathinda, August 18

The abandoned sewerage work in Guru Nanak Dev Nagar has made the lives of residents miserable.

Residents allege that the contractor, appointed by the Municipal Corporation, Bathinda, (MCB) dug up the road at many places left the work in between.

Bhagwant Maan, a resident, says, “Despite repeated complaints to the authorities concerned, the sewerage work has not been started again for the past two months. The contractor has dug up the only road to the locality.”

“It becomes difficult for us to reach our houses. Moreover, during rains, potholes get filled with water, thus posing the threat of vector-borne diseases,” he adds.

“Besides, trucks plying near the society makes community, especially for women, difficult,” he adds.

“Now, we have decided to stage a protest in front of the office of the MCB,” he adds.

Mayor Balwant Rai Nath says, “I was not aware of the matter. I will immediately order the authorities concerned to look into the matter.” — TNS
