Ramneek Kaur Mahal, Manraj Singh Sra and Sabin Rai brought laurels to the city by securing all-India rank (AIR) 2, 4 and 48, respectively, in the AIIMS entrance examination, the result of which was announced on Monday.

Ramneek proved to be a topper all along as she had earlier secured AIR 10 in NEET and also topped in Bathinda district in the CBSE Class XII examinations by securing 97.6 per cent marks.

Talking to The Tribune, Ramneek swore by regularity and staying away from social media as her success mantra.

“Being regular in studies and never losing sight of my aim helped me achieve it. For the past two years, I have stayed away from all distractions and just focused on my studies. Although I was expecting to score well, securing AIR 2 is unbelievable,” she said.

“As a gift, Ramneek will now get a smartphone of her choice as she had been using a basic mobile phone till now,” said her parents Dr Brinder Kaur and Dr Amanjit Singh Mahal.

Manraj Singh Sra, son of eye surgeon Dr JS Sra and general physician Dr Navpreet Kaur, secured AIR 4.

“Completely unexpected,” is how he described his result. “After appearing for the exam, I was confident that I would qualify for AIIMS, but was not expecting to be placed fourth among all candidates,” he said.

Totally cutting off from social media is something that Manraj followed.

Manraj had scored 93.6 per cent marks in the CBSE Class XII examinations and bagged AIR-159 in NEET, the result of which was announced earlier this month.

Sabin Rai, son of Dr Deepak Rai and Dr Dheera Gupta also brought laurels to the city by securing AIR 48. For Sabin too, being a doctor runs in the family.

“My grandfather is a doctor and so are my parents. My elder brother is pursuing MBBS from Udaipur. I got all the inspiration that I required from within the family,” he said.

“After the result was announced, I took almost an hour to let it sink in since I was not expecting to make it to AIIMS. Now that my admission to my dream institute has been confirmed, I would like to become a cardio surgeon,” Sabin said.
