Bathinda, August 13

The Ajit Road, one of the busiest stretches where a majority of the IELTS institutions are located, has been made the one-way stretch. The entry to this road from Ghore Wala Chowk has been blocked. However, the decision of the traffic police has disgruntled many motorists.

The stretch has become accident-prone as motorists were seen jumping the one-way restriction to avoid driving additional distance to reach their respective destinations.

However, officials have made it clear that no challan will be issued to violators till one week. Only a warning will be issued, a traffic police official deployed at Fauji Chowk said.

Harbhajan Singh, a motorist who was unaware of this plan introduced by the traffic police, said, “It’s a wrong decision. Now, we have to travel more to reach our destinations, which will affect our pockets.”

DSP (Traffic) Gurjeet Singh Romana said, “In view of heavy traffic and to ensure the security of girls, the Ajit Road has been permanently made one-way. During the trial period of one week, no violator will be challaned. However, no one will be spared later. We have put up signboards on entry points of Ajit Road to make people aware of the one-way stretch plan.”
