Axing of trees: 3 booked after over two months

BARNALA: The local police on Friday night booked three persons for allegedly axing trees.

Barnala, June 23

The local police on Friday night booked three persons for allegedly axing trees. In March this year, complainant Attar Singh told the police that last year, 15 trees were axed from his fields.

Attar said, “On May 3 last year, three persons — Sinder Singh, Sandeep Singh and Teja Singh — showed their interest to purchase all 15 trees grown in my field. Though I did not allow them to axe the trees as I had sought some time to discuss the offer with my family, the accused axed the trees on May 5. I had came to know about it on May 6 morning.”

“After axing all trees without my permission, the accused sold them. Since May 2017, I have been demanding Rs 80,000 for the price of my trees. Though the accused gave me a cheque for Rs 40,000, it bounced,” he added.

When he failed to get his money, he had lodged a complaint with the Barnala police in March this year. A case under Sections 420, 379 and 120-B of the IPC was registered against the accused on Friday.

ASI Darshan Singh could not be contacted despite repeated attempts as his mobile phone was switched off. — TNS
