Bathinda fares better than last year

BATHINDA: Bathinda district has managed to fare better in the Class XII examinations conducted by the Punjab State Education Department, the results of which were declared on Monday.

Bathinda district has managed to fare better in the Class XII examinations conducted by the Punjab State Education Department, the results of which were declared on Monday.

The board, however, is yet to release the merit list, expected on Tuesday, hereby making the students wait for one more day.

On Monday, the board released the overall result according to which Bathinda district is placed at 4th position among the 22 districts.

Of the 13,687 students who appeared for the examination from the district, 10,605 managed to clear the examinations. The district registered a pass percentage of 78.99.

Although a lesser number of students appeared for the examination this year, the district achieved much higher pass percentage as compared to 2017. In 2017, Bathinda and Gurdaspur had tied for the seventh place.

In 2017, 14,755 appeared for the examination of which only 9,146 students managed to clear, taking the pass percentage to 61.99.

Muktsar, Mansa better than Bathinda

As per information released by the board, Bathinda’s neighbouring Muktsar and Mansa districts performed better in the examination.

While Muktsar topped among all districts with a pass percentage of 79.64, Mansa secured the second position in the state with 78.59 pass percentage.

Ludhiana ranked third with 78.56 pass percentage with 26,334 students out of 33,520 clearing the examination.

Tarn Taran remained at the bottom of the list with only 31.60 per cent of the students managing to pass.

In Muktsar, of the 7,705 students who sat for the examination, 6,136 passed the examination.

In Mansa, 8,666 students appeared for the examination while 6,811 managed to clear.

Across the state, 3,00,417 students appeared for the examination, of which 1,98,199 students have cleared the examination.

The overall pass percentage for the state is 65.97 per cent. This is although higher than the pass percentage recorded in 2017 (62.36 per cent), it is much lower than what was recorded in 2016 (76.77 per cent).

Malwa on top

Students of Malwa brought laurels as seven districts from the region made a place in the top 10 slots.

Apart from Muktsar, Mansa, Ludhiana and Bathinda gaining the top four slots, Sangrur followed at the fifth place with pass percentage 76.89. Of the 17,655 students of Sangrur, 10,605 cleared the examination.

Another district from Malwa, Fatehgarh Saheb secured the sixth position. Of the 6,165 students of Fatehgarh Saheb, who sat for the examination, 4,648 students cleared the examination.

Another Malwa district, Patiala, managed the ninth slot in the list with 72.58 pass percentage. Of the 20,449 students from Patiala, 14,842 cleared the examination.
