While violence is reported in Rampura, Talwandi Sabo and Bathinda (Urban) constituencies during the past few days, Bhucho and Bathinda (Rural) constituencies remained the most peaceful constituencies as of now.

In terms of complaints also, Bhucho got a least number of complaints — 12 — so far, as compared to the maximum complaints received in Rampura — 115.

As per details of complaints received since the imposition of the election code of conduct on January 4, Bathinda (Urban) received 91 complaints, Bathinda (Rural) 17, Talwandi Sabo 23 and Maur Mandi got 21 complaints.

“It is not only in terms of complaints but also less violence is reported in Bhucho and Bathinda (Rural) segments,” said officials of the complaint cell in Bathinda.

But it did not mean that other areas were more troublesome as it might also signify that voters in other areas were more active and aware, they said.

Bathinda Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori admitted that Bhucho and Bathinda (Urban) were indeed the most peaceful. But no serious violence was reported in Talwandi Sabo and Bathinda (Urban) seats as well.

“By and large, the election process will remain peaceful in all constituencies for which special measures are being taken by the district administration and the police,” Thori said.

Gurjeet Singh, a resident of Rampura, said the fight between political parties was severe in those constituencies where bigwigs or sitting or former ministers were trying their luck this time.

“Also, areas with more urbanisation in the Bathinda district have maximum access to the mode of modern means and communications which prove instrumental in lodging instant and more complaints,” Gurjeet said.

SSP Swapan Sharma said following the bomb blast in Maur Mandi, the entire police force were on the tenterhooks.

“Our entire thrust is on keeping notorious and criminal elements at bay and there will be zero tolerance for any kind of violence in the district,” Swapan said.
