Bathinda: Unidentified persons dumped the body of a man outside the emergency ward of the Civil Hospital early on Wednesday morning. The body was covered with a blanket and dumped near the door of the ward. The police have kept the body in the mortuary of the hospital for identification. Hargobind Singh, in-charge of the hospital police post, said the hospital staff informed him about the body around 4.45 am. There was no injury mark on the body. The deceased was aged around 60 years. Hargobind said they had circulated the picture of the deceased at various police stations for identification. The police didn’t find any clue from the CCTV cameras installed outside the emergency ward as they were not working. TNS
Body of student not recovered
Bathinda: The body of Gurpeet Singh (15), a resident of Mandi Kalan village, who was allegedly killed by an ex-Army soldier six days ago, is yet to be recovered from the Sirhind canal. Gurpreet was killed with a double-barrel gun, allegedly stolen by him from his home. Teams of the NDRF and special divers tried to fish out the body on Wednesday, but failed. On the other hand, accused Manpreet Singh Manni was produced in the court, which sent him to three-day police remand. The police are yet to recover the rifle. According to sources, Manpreet told the police that he had planned to get the rifle of Gurpreet’s father a few months ago. He managed to convince Gurpreet to bring the rifle, besides stealing some cash. On February 15, Gurpreet stole the rifle, cartridges and Rs 700 from his house and gave it to Manpreet. Manpreet killed Gurpreet the same night and threw his body into the canal. Sandeep Singh Bhati, SHO of the Balianwali police station, said their teams were searching for the body. TNS
MC bypoll: Dry day on Feb 24
Malout: Muktsar Additional District Magistrate Rajpal Singh on Wednesday declared to observe a dry day on February 24 in the town for the by-election of the Municipal Council’s Ward Number 15. The orders will remain into force from 8 am till the counting of votes. Further, he directed the public in the town to deposit their weapons at the gun shops or the police stations. TNS
