Body recovered from canal

Bathinda: An elderly woman’s body was recovered from a water channel on Wednesday morning. It has not been identified yet. After getting information, the Nathana police reached the spot and pulled out the body from the canal. They took it to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem. Investigating officer ASI Manjit Singh said, “In the wee hours, we got information from villagers that a body of a woman was floating in the canal. We went to the spot and pulled it out from the canal.” The woman might have been in her fifties. There is no injury mark on her body. TNS

One killed in truck race

Faridkot: A race between two trucks of an Amritsar-based transport company to overtake each on National Highway-54 near Kotkapura ended in a fatal accident and the driver of one of the trucks succumbed to injuries. The deceased has been identified as Gulab Singh of Raja Taal Atari village of Amritsar. Both trucks belong to Sartaj Transport Company. TNS

Rs 3.35 theft at house

Bathinda: Jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 85,000 in cash have been stolen. A case has been registered at the Sangat police station under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC. In a complaint lodged by Amrik Singh, a resident of Mehta village, it has been alleged that unidentified persons stole gold jewellery and cash, from his house on Tuesday night. TNS

Training programme at NFL 

Bathinda: A two-day training programme is being organised by the director of factories in collaboration with the Punjab Industrial Safety Council for employees of National Fertilizers Limited, Bathinda. The programme began on Wednesday. Sunil Arora, chief general manager, NFL, Bathinda, inaugurated the programme. Sahil Goyal, Assistant Director of Factories, was the guest of honour. Sunil Arora advised the participants to take advantage of the programme. Sahil Goyal said the programme had been organized to apprise the workers of safety. Lectures were delivered by Naresh Suyal, Raman Sharma and Naresh Pathania on different topics related to safety. TNS

GKU students win gold

Bathinda: Students of University College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (UCHT) have brought laurels to Guru Kashi University (GKU) by excelling in the state-level cooking competition. Head of Department chef Gaurav Khurana congratulated the students on their selection to the national round of the competition being organised by Punjab Skilled Development Mission. Pintu and Komaldeep Kaur secured the first positions in their respective events and won the gold medals. Jogesh bagged the second position and won the silver medal. The winners will participate in the national round in Lucknow. Managing director Sukhraj Singh Sidhu and vice-chancellor Col Dr Bhupinder Singh Dhaliwal congratulated the students and staff members on their accomplishment. TNS

IT workshop at BFC 

Bathinda: The IT Department of Baba Farid College (BFC) organised an IT workshop in which over 100 students of 10+2 (non-medical, medical and arts streams) from different schools of the region participated. The workshop provided practical information about hardware and software. The new trends in the field of IT were shared by experts and students got to know the career scope in the IT field. A one-day workshop was also organised by the Mathematical Department of Baba Farid College, in which Sukhdev Mittal (state awardee) as a subject expert showed a live project of maths to students and gave detailed information about the project. Students also got a chance to participate in the four-day selfie summer camp by the Science Department wherein they learnt creation of live projects of physics, chemistry and biotech. A workshop, Winnovation, was held in which more than 70 participants from 10+2 (non-medical) and diploma holders from polytechnic colleges participated of Dasmesh Girls College performed well in the examinations conducted by Punjab University.
