Bathinda, February 21

A team of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has arrived in the city to conduct audit of the Municipal Corporation Bathinda (MCB).

As per the officials of the team, they will stay here for the next few weeks and will conduct audit of all branches of the civic body.

They claim that it’s a routine work done by the department and last time too, such audit was done to find various shortcomings.

They have already asked for the record of the departments and after checking, the audit report would be prepared.

On the first day, the CAG team called for the files of the projects of the MCB.

Last year, the CAG had raised objection and issued a notice to the MCB over the solid waste management plant project, low recovery of property tax and sewerage and water bills.

In the reply to the notice, the MCB had set the target of recovery up to 90 percent in the 2016, but the MCB failed to do this in the last year as more than Rs 10 crore is outstanding.

In the report, along with non-starting of the solid waste treatment project, the separate audit of the funds received from the Union government under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan would be done as the government has issued huge funds for the constructions of toilets in the city.
