The post-mortem examination of two gangsters — Prabhdeep Singh of Kamalwala village, Fazilka, and Manpreet Singh of Jalalabad, Fazilka — was conducted at the Civil Hospital here today.

They were killed in a police encounter at Gulabgarh village (near Kotfatta) yesterday. The bodies were handed over to their family members after the post-mortem, which was conducted by a board of doctors.

Before the post-mortem examination, Abreen Kaur, a resident of Chandigarh, reached the Civil Hospital and claimed to be the wife of Prabhdeep. She wanted to see the body of Prabhdeep, but the relatives didn’t let her do so, refuting her claim as they said Prabhdeep was never married to her. The drama went on for 20 minutes. Later, she left the hospital after seeing the body. However, Abreen failed to produce any proof of her wedding.

Kulraj Singh, a resident of Abohar and uncle of Prabhdeep, said he didn’t know about the girl. Abreen also tried to enter the mortuary of the Civil Hospital but the police stopped her.

Swaran Singh Khanna, SP (D), told Abreen that the body would be given to the kin.

Earlier, Abreen Kaur reached the Civil Hospital in the morning and told the media that she got married, which was a love-cum-arrange marriage, to Prabhdeep Singh in 2015. “After the marriage, I haven’t maintained contact with my parents. We were living in Chandigarh. I was selected as a sub-inspector in the Punjab Police. I left my training in between and started working in the private sector,” she said.

According to her, Kulraj Singh was the middleman in their wedding but didn’t identify her. “All of them present at the hospital belong to Abohar. They all had attended the marriage in Abohar. They all are not identifying because of five acres of land, which belong to Prabhdeep. He was the only son of his parents and they want to take the possession of the land. Prabhdeep father’s has already passed away,” she said.

Abreen said she would address a press conference in Bathinda with all proofs of her marriage. Kulraj Singh said he didn’t know about the marriage of Prabhdeep.

Meanwhile, family members of Manpreet also reached the Civil Hospital to take his body. They said it was a fake encounter and accused the police of concocting the entire story.

Teary-eyed Jaswinder Kaur, mother, said the police had made a false story. She also said her son had no role in getting Amritpal freed from the police custody.
