The Bhai Mani Singh Civil Hospital has sent a proposal of Rs 4.81 crore to the Punjab Health System Corporation (PHSC) for its renovation and upgrade. The hospital complex and internal roads have been in bad shape for years.

In their estimated proposal, the hospital authorities have highlighted key issues, which need to be addressed at the earliest.

These issues include repairs and renovation of the old women and children hospital complex, renovation of the OPD block and construction of footpath, especially for carrying patients on stretchers and wheelchairs, construction of a new mortuary in 2,000 sq ft area, new laundry unit in 1,200 sq ft area, a room for biomedical waste in 300 sq ft area, extension of the existing blood bank complex up to 1,500 sq ft area.

The authorities have sent a proposal of Rs 2.6 crore for the construction of new residential quarters for class III and IV employees.

At present, the condition of these quarters is so pathetic that they may collapse any time.

Besides, for repairs of internal roads and construction of a new water tank having 2 lakh lt capacity, a proposal of Rs 90 lakh has also been sent to the PHSC.

Bathinda Tribune has time and again highlighted the poor condition of the Civil Hospital in these columns.

PHSC XEN Sukhchain Singh said the Civil Hospital complex was in a dilapidated condition. SMO Sukhjinder Singh Gill recently sent a letter to the Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr SS Romana for renovation and upgrading buildings on the premises of the hospital, he added.

However, they haven’t received any response from the PHSC authorities. The hospital authorities are hoping to get the approval by the end of this financial year.

New fire safety equipment soon

  • Modernised fire-fighting equipment is going to be installed on the premises of Bhai Mani Singh Civil Hospital soon.
  • The corporation wing of the hospital has sent a proposal of Rs 80 lakh to the higher authorities.
  • The proposal has been accepted by the authorities and within months, the hospital will have state-of-the-art fire-fighting equipment
  • Confirming the development, Sukhchain Singh, XEN, PHSC, said they were going to install hydraulic fire-fighting equipment in the hospital sections, including OPD, mother and children hospital and emergency ward
  • Besides, they will install fire extinguishers in the one-storey complexes on the hospital premises
