Bathinda, December 12

Dr Mandeep Mittal, CJM/Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, visited the Central Jail here today. He was accompanied by SS Sahota, Superintendent, Central Jail.

A jail inmate, Ram Singh, working in the factory had prepared various beautiful paintings. He was encouraged to prepare more paintings and train other jail inmates who want to learn the art of painting.

The CJM discussed petty cases, particularly Excise ones, with the Deputy Superintendent. He interacted with Para Legal Volunteers and directions were issued to them to provide inmates with free legal aid services who are in need of legal help and support. The CJM noted down the names of various inmates, who requested for a speedy trial and for early presentation of challan.

Dr Mandeep Mittal addressed the jail inmates through the public address system and briefed them that they should write down their problems on a piece of paper with complete particulars in order to solve the same. The inmates were asked to mention their health problems to the jail authorites as well as Para Legal Volunteers so that another medical camp could be organised by the District Legal Services Authority, Bathinda, for them. The Superintendent was asked to prepare a list of inmates who required surgical intervention, particularly problems like cataract.
