Bathinda, April 25

Members of the Water Supply and Sanitation Contractual Employees’ Union staged a protest outside the Sub-Divisional Engineer’s office here today.

District president of the union Lachhman Singh Bhullar led the protest.

The union members protested against the ‘termination of service’ of Kirandeep Kaur, who was working as data entry operator in the department. The union members said to discuss the matter and demand the reinstatement of the employee, they wrote letters to officials and sought time to meet the Sub-Divisional Engineer but they were not called for a meeting.

They added that after not getting time to meet the Sub-Divisional Engineer, the members approached the Deputy Commissioner as well but to no avail.

Addressing the protesters, vice-president of the union Sandeep and senior vice-president of the sub-committee Anuraag Bansal said in case the dismissed employee was not reinstated, the union would intensify its protest against the department.

Adding that the department must stop terminating the service of those working on a contractual basis, the protesters said the department must immediately release the salary of employees.

They said the employees had not received their salary for the past several months.
