Cops take rape accused to restaurant; probe ordered

BATHINDA: The Bathinda police have initiated a departmental inquiry against the policemen who allegedly took rape accused to a restaurant before taking him back to jail after his court hearing in the city.

The Bathinda police have initiated a departmental inquiry against the policemen who allegedly took rape accused to a restaurant before taking him back to jail after his court hearing in the city. The incident took place a few days ago.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Naveen Singla said it had come to his notice and a departmental inquiry had been initiated against SI Narbir Singh.

Divulging details, Naveen Singla said Bhucho DSP was heading the probe in the incident.

The Nehiawala police had registered a rape case under POCSO Act against Gurkirat Singh, a resident of Killi Nihal Singhwala.

On May 9, SI Narbir Singh, along with a police party, allegedly took the accused Gurkirat Singh alias Gaggi, Sarabjeet Singh alias Sarb and Davinder Singh alias Binder to present them in the court of Duty Magistrate.

After presenting them in the court, police officials took them to a restaurant for having tea, instead of immediately taking them back to jail, the said SSP.

He added that SI Narbir Singh had tarnished the image of the Police Department and his act was condemnable and punishable.

He said further action would be taken after getting a report from the Bhucho DSP.
