Bathinda, April 25

Even as the Central University of Punjab (CUP) is all set to relocate to its newly constructed campus at Ghudda village soon, the university plans to shift some of its students to the boys’ hostel of Government Rajindra College here, as the work on its new boys’ hostel at Ghudda is yet to be completed.

At present, the three-storey hostel of the college is in a shambles, due to which the Government Rajindra College authorities have allowed the students to reside only at its top floor.

The lower floors of the building are in a dilapidated condition.

Talking to Bathinda Tribune, Govt Rajindra College principal Mukesh Aggarwal confirmed that CUP Vice-Chancellor RK Kohli had taken up the matter with him during the latter’s recent visit to the college.

“I had told him that our hostel building was in a dilapidated condition. Subsequently, he said they would renovate the entire building, if we allow their students to stay there for four months. I found it a good offer for the betterment of the college. We were unable to renovate the building due to paucity of funds. It will be mutually beneficial for us,” he said.

A team of engineers from the CUP had recently visited the college campus to take stock of the building’s condition, he added.

V-C RK Kohli also admitted that they had sought a place for lodging their students at Govt Rajindra College.

He said they would move forward on the proposal once they get the estimate of funds required to renovate the hostel building.
