The students of MA English of DAV College, Bathinda, have again brought laurels to the college by securing the first, sixth and tenth positions in MA (Final) English examination conducted by Punjabi University, Patiala. While Shruti Sharma stood first, Jatinder Kaur secured the sixth position. The 10th position on the university merit list went to Amandeep Kaur. College principal Dr Sanjeev Sharma, vice-principal Prof Varesh Gupta, head, Department of English, Dr HS Arora, Prof Satish Grover, Prof Karampal Kaur and Dr Neetu Purohit congratulated the students.

BFCET students secure five university positions

The students of Baba Farid College of Engineering & Technology bagged five positions in the university merit list declared by Punjab Technical University (PTU). Leaving the boys far behind in the merit list, BFCET girls secured the merit positions. While Deepali Verma of B.Tech (EE) has topped the list by obtaining 85.86 per cent marks, Chanchal Sachdeva of B.Tech (CSE) secured 87.86 per cent marks to bag the third position and Mandeep Kaur, a student of B.Tech (CE), bagged the fourth position obtaining 84.03 per cent marks. Anku of M.Tech (ECE) with 80.05 per cent bagged the sixth position while Gagandeep Kaur of M.Tech (ECE) bagged the second position on the university merit list securing 82.59 per cent marks.

International Women’s Day celebrated

The Committee Against Sexual Harassment (CASH) of Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University (MRSSTU), Bathinda, celebrated International Women’s Day by conducting an expert lecture on ‘Women Psychology and Health’. The function started with an introductory note by Prof Jyoti Saxena followed by a welcome address delivered by Prof Jasbir Singh Hundal, registrar, MRSSTU-cum-campus director, GZSCCET, Bathinda. He motivated the women to believe in themselves and their strengths.

The expert lectures were delivered by Dr Nidhi Gupta (radiologist) and Dr Renuka Madhok (dietician). Dr Gupta emphasised the role of happiness in life and discussed ways to achieve a life full of bliss. On the other hand, Dr Madhok discussed the usefulness of a balanced diet along with healthy eating habits and motivated the young girls to adopt natural food instead of fast or processed food.

Gurinder Kaur Hundal, guest of honour, reiterated the need to curb foeticide by reviving the ethical and moral values in society. Lida Singh Ishar, first lady of the university and chief guest at the function, appreciated the events of the day. Dr Seema Sharma winded up the function by delivering a vote of thanks.

Seminar at SSD College

The post-graduate department of commerce and the department of economics of SSD Girls College, under the aegis of SSD Sabha, organised a second national seminar on the topic ‘Startup India – The Road Ahead’ this week. The seminar was aimed at promoting bank financing for start-up ventures and offer incentives to boost entrepreneurship and job creation.

The principal of the college Dr Parminder Kaur Tanghi and the president of SSD Group of Institutes, Nand Lal Garg, welcomed the gathering of dignitaries and participants. Prof RK Kohli, vice-chancellor of the Central University of Punjab, was present on the occasion as the chief guest. He stressed on the importance of human and natural resources available to us which could be utilised well to make our country a developed one. He motivated the youth to choose the right path and become future-oriented and be successful.

Dr Pradeep Chakrabarty, former professor from IIFT, presented the keynote address on the theme of the seminar. In his address, he inspired the students to seize various opportunities available and also reflected on the case studies of successful entrepreneurs. His speech was followed by a question and answer session.

GZS students secure second place in tech fest

Students of Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology secured the second place in Advaitya - annual technical fest of DAVIET, Jalandhar. The students of B.Tech sixth semester from the Department of Civil Engineering Pankaj Singh Rana, Rohit Saini and Saksham Parmar from Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology Bathinda, participated in the “Swacch” event, in which they were supposed to make water filter using natural substances like sand, gravel, silt and clay etc. similar to the water purification process that takes place naturally for the purification of groundwater that percolates after the rain. The project was conceived under the guidance of Prof GS Bath, head of the department of Civil Engineering and Dr Manjeet Bansal, associate professor, Civil Engineering.
