Bathinda, October 20

Despite tall claims by the district Health Department on preparedness to deal with dengue, the number of dengue patients is continuously rising at the Bhai Mani Singh Civil Hospital.

As per the Civil Hospital record, 68 cases of dengue patients have been registered at the hospital till date. It is pertinent to mention that although the district Health Department has made it mandatory to all the private health institutions of the district to submit their report regarding dengue cases to the district Civil Hospital, no private hospital has submitted the report of dengue patients to the government hospital till date.

In addition, due to the inappropriate functioning of the community health centres and sub-divisional hospitals, patients at times are not reported.

As a result, on government documents only 68 dengue patients have been registered so far otherwise the count of dengue patients would definitely be more.

Moreover, in recent times as per the reports published in Bathinda Tribune regarding a spurt in the number of dengue cases also belies the tall claims made by the district health department.

A report published on September 15, in which six cases of dengue patients had been registered by the Civil Hospital and on October 6, after a gap of 20 days the count of dengue cases rose up to 23.

District Epidemiologist Dr Rajpal Singh confirmed that till date 68 patients of dengue cases had been reported at the Civil Hospital.
