Members of the Block Level Officers Union, Punjab, today staged a dharna outside the District Administrative Complex against the “additional work load” which has been handed to them.
Raising slogans against the Election Commission of India, the BLOs said they have been asked to upload the election related data on the ECI website. Agitating officers said in case the district administration tried to pressure them, they would intensify their stir.
Union leader Jaswinder Singh said, “BLOs had diligently followed the directions of the ECI and collected election related data of the blocks assigned to them. Now, the ECI wants us to upload all the data on their website. Data should be uploaded by data entry operators and not by BLOs,” he said.
“District administration must give tasks assigned to BLOs to unemployed youngsters. This would give work to youth and would help in shedding extra workload from government employee,” the BLOs said. They also rued that the BLOs have been asked to make new votes, strike out old votes and make changes in the electoral rolls on their off days. — TNS
