Bathinda, January 4

Members of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department, engineer cadre, today opened a front against the employees of the department working on a contract basis with the department. Engineers met Bathinda Deputy Commissioner Diprava Lakra here today and submitted a memorandum of demands, addressed to the Senior Superintendent of Police, against the contractual employees.

Accusing the contractual employees of using “unparliamentary language” against the sub-divisional, assistant and junior engineers of the department during their protest held in the city recently, the engineers demanded that action be taken against the contractual employees.

Elaborating on their grievance, the engineers alleged that during the protest staged by the contractual employees on January 2 in front of the sub-divisional office, the protesters used derogatory words while referring to engineers Kewal Garg, Harinder Singh and Gagandeep Goel and also threatened them.

The engineers said the protesters also used threatening language against the officials who had gone to attend a hearing at the High Court and were not even present inside the office when the protest was staged.
