Ruby Dhalla, a former member of the Canadian House of Commons, on Thursday visited Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, a constituent college of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) here.

During her visit to the cancer ward of the hospital, Dhalla interacted with patients, wished them early recovery and distributed fruits and milk among them.

During her meeting with Dr Raj Bahadur, Vice-Chancellor, BFUHS, the latter asked the political leader of the Liberal Party to help in creating a corpus fund for procurement of consumable items from the manufacturers directly for the distribution among the patients at “no loss no profit” basis.

Well-settled and economically well-to-do Punjabis in Canada should help in creating the corpus for the help of needy patients in Punjab, the V-C said.

Dhalla assured to chalk out ways and means to fulfil this demand of the university. She also visited Radha Krishan Dhaam and Gurdwara Mayi Godri Sahib, Faridkot.

During the visit, the former MP also interacted with Dr Arvind Sharma, Registrar, BFUHS, Dr Deepak John Bhatti, Principal, GGS Medical College, Dr SP Singh, controller of examinations, Dr Rajiv Joshi, medical superintendent and other faculty members of the institution.

She was also shown infrastructure created in the cancer ward as well as in rest of the hospital.

Ruby Dhalla was the first Sikh woman to serve in the Canadian House of Commons.
