Experts throw light on social issues at Nehru College

MANSA: In the age of globalisation, if the country fails to chalk out concrete policies on agricultural crisis, safety of women, education, health and unemployment, the next generation will have to bear the brunt of the same, said experts at a national conference organised at Nehru Memorial Government College here today.

In the age of globalisation, if the country fails to chalk out concrete policies on agricultural crisis, safety of women, education, health and unemployment, the next generation will have to bear the brunt of the same, said experts at a national conference organised at Nehru Memorial Government College here today. The topic of the conference was ‘emerging issues in India’.

Welcoming the guests, speakers, students and staff members to the conference,

College Principal Sukhraj Singh welcomed the guests and participants. He called on to the people to make joint efforts to address the issues plaguing society and the nation.

Dr Jagpal Singh, Pro-VC of Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo, threw light on ‘participation of women in politics’. He stated that even in the 21st century, woman politicians have not been able to gain the place and importance in comparison with their male counterparts. Political parties must vote in favour of at least 33 per cent women presence in the Parliament.

Jagtar Singh Joga of Government College Mohali impressed upon the need for all countries to unite to wade out financial crisis that some nations are facing.

Sandeep Kaur of Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, said the developed and developing nations should join hands to draft mature policies to help each other progress.

Prof KK Sharma said, “To ensure that women get the place in the world they deserve, the countries will have to ensure that at least 33 per cent reservation is kept for women in all the fields.”

Economist Sukhpal Singh said due to wrong policies of the state and Union government, agricultural crisis was deepening. “As a result, the debt burden on the shoulders of farmers is increasing and the marginal farmers and farm labourers are taking the unfortunate path of committing suicides. The government at the Centre as well as the states will have to draft favourable policies to help out farmers,” he added.
