Members of the Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union today staged a protest outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner in support of their demands.
Raising slogans against the state government, the union members threatened that in case their demands were not met then they would intensify their stir.
Submitting a memorandum of their demands, addressed to Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, to the Deputy Commissioner, the union members said the state government must work towards addressing the problem of financial crunch that the farm labourers were facing.
Demanding a debt waiver scheme for the farm hands on the lines of the debt waiver announced for the farmers of the state, leaders Jora Singh and Sewak Singh said the state government was meting out step-motherly treatment to the farm labourers by not covering them under its schemes.
