Bathinda, February 22

Members of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) today staged a protest on the Bathinda-Barnala road near Lehra Bega with demands related to farmer Jaswant Singh, who committed suicide at patwarkhana, accusing a patwari.

The protest went on from 12 pm to 4 pm. The protesters blocked the road from both sides. The tehsildar reached the spot and talked to protesters following which it was called off.

Shingara Singh Mann, district president of the BKU (Ekta Ugrahan), said the administration was not listening to the problems of Jaswant Singh’s family.

Mann demanded that a case of fraud should be registered against the accused patwari, compensation with interest should be released as soon as possible and a government job should be given to a member of his family.

He also said they had met the Bathinda Deputy Commissioner many times, but no action regarding their demands was taken yet.

He has warned of protest in future too if demands not met.
