BATHINDA, AUGUST 18

Though traffic lights at various places of the city have been out of order for the past few days, the traffic wing of the city police has not paid any attention to the problem.

These faulty traffic-lights have led to some road accidents, leaving commuters injured. Moreover, traffic disorder and jams are a daily feature at these light points.

The traffic-lights, situated between Fouji Chowk and the bus stand on the Bathinda-Goniana road, are not functioning properly. The lights facing the Powerhouse road are showing only red light throughout the day. This is one of the busy roads in the city and thousands of vehicles passing the light daily are at the risk of meeting with an accident.

Joginder Kumar, a resident of Model Town, said he worked as an electrician near Amrik Singh Road and he went up and down these roads daily and every time he faced lots of problems due to a traffic jam caused by the faulty lights.

Deepu, a resident of Paras Ram Nagar, said while returning to home taking the DC office route he had to stop here for at least 15 minutes due to the faulty lights which did not give the green signal and finally he took the bus stand road to reach home.

The faulty lights make commuters to jump the red light, which is an open invitation to road accidents.

The same situation has been with the traffic-lights on the Clock Tower-Bibi Wala Chowk, where traffic comes from two sides and the lights do not give proper signals.

When contacted, Deputy Superintendent of Police Gurjeet Singh Romana of the traffic wing said he would look into the problem tomorrow and take action immediately.
