Few obey order to construct boundary wall on vacant plots

BATHINDA: Despite directions to make the boundary wall on the vacant plots given by the Municipal Corporation and a warning of strict action to be taken against those who flout the order under Section 324 of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976, few city residents have started the construction of the boundary wall on their vacant plots.

Despite directions to make the boundary wall on the vacant plots given by the Municipal Corporation and a warning of strict action to be taken against those who flout the order under Section 324 of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976, few city residents have started the construction of the boundary wall on their vacant plots.

It is pertinent to mention that the MC took this step following a number of vacant plots in the city being turned into a garbage dump by residents of residential areas. Various vacant plots in Ganesh Nagar, Civil Lines area, Model Town, Bhagu Road, 100 ft road and various other parts of the city have become a garbage dumping site as well as a nuisance for city residents.

Talking to residents of different parts of the city, the Bathinda Tribune team got a mixed reaction over the directions given by the Municipal Corporation and even some valid questions were raised by city residents.

“It is a very good initiative taken by the MC. It definitely raised the level of sanitation in the city. There are a number of vacant plots in the city where the owners of the plots have forgotten to pay any heed to the plots and it has become a nuisance for the residents living nearby plot,” said Civil Lines area resident Haridutt Sharma.

A vacant plot owner, on condition of anonymity, said, “The MC order to make the boundary wall on vacant plots is totally biased. The MC has held the owner of a vacant plot a culprit in its direction and on the other side people who dump plastic bags full of garbage on vacant plots have become innocent. The MC needs to keep a tab on the people throwing garbage on vacant plots and must take strict action against them.”

Jagbir Singh, a resident of Ganesh Nagar, said, “The MC has to make a law for the disputed vacant plots, because on the disputed vacant plots nobody is taking the initiative to construct boundary wall. As a result, we are seeing garbage heaps accumulated on the vacant plots.”
