Barnala: A fire broke out at the house of a Dera Sacha Sauda follower at Sandhu Patti of Barnala city in the wee hours on Sunday. Household items were destroyed in the incident. Two years ago, a fire had broken out in the same house. As per information, after seeing fire in a room of their house, family members of Prem Singh raised an alarm and went to the rooftop. Within some time, neighbours gathered and controlled the fire. “Two years ago, a fire had destroyed my goods while today, it again damaged furniture, clothes, TV and refrigerator. I have informed the police for further action,” said Prem, who works as a salesman at a local shop of tyres. He works as a night watchman at the shop. Last night, he was at work when the fire broke out. “We have started an investigation after recording the statement of Prem, but he has not named anyone,” said Balwant Singh, SHO of the Barnala (City) police station. Two booked for land fraud

Bathinda: Two persons got the registry of land belonging to a widow done in their name at Mehraj village in Rampura Phul sub-division. They did it by showing the widow dead. As it came to the notice of the widow, she lodged a complaint with the police and after inquiry by the Economic Offences Wing, a case was registered at the Rampura city police station. In a complaint lodged by Pritam Kaur, a resident of Bhamme Kalan village, it has been stated that Kulbir Singh, a resident of Mehraj village, showed her dead with the help of nambardar Harbans Singh of Mehraj village and made the registry in the name of Kulbir with fake documents. A case under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC has been registered against Kulbir Singh and nambardar Harbans Singh. The accused are absconding. Investigating officer Surjeet Singh said a case had been registered and the accused would be held soon. TNS

Youth killed in road accident

Bathinda: A youth was killed and his two friends injured in a road accident that took place at Ghumman Kalan village. A Mahindra pick-up vehicle hit a motorcycle. The Maur police have registered a case against the unidentified driver. In a complaint lodged by Nirmal Singh, a resident of Ghumman Kalan, it has been stated that he was going with his friends, Lakhbir Singh and Malkeet Singh, residents of Ghumman Kalan, on a motorcycle (PB-08-Y-9541). When they reached outside their village, a Mahindra pick-up vehicle (PB-22-K-0174) hit them in the rear. The three were admitted to the hospital where Lakhbir Singh was declared dead. A case under Section 304A, 279, 337 and 427 of the IPC has been registered at the Maur police station against unidentified accused. TNS

1 held with 5,000 drug tablets

Barnala: The Barnala Sadar police arrested a person and recovered 5,000 habit-forming tablets from his possession. The police have registered a case under the NDPS Act. “Last evening, we arrested Ram Singh near a drain near Handiaya and seized 5,000 tablets. We have registered a case and started further investigation,” said ASI Hakam Singh from Barnala Sadar police station. TNS
