Garbage collection: MCB files compliance report in NGT

BATHINDA: The Municipal Corporation of Bathinda (MCB) has submitted its compliance report in the National Green Tribunal (NGT), New Delhi, on the arrangements made by them for door-to-door garbage collection work before taking over from JITF Company from May 1.

The Municipal Corporation of Bathinda (MCB) has submitted its compliance report in the National Green Tribunal (NGT), New Delhi, on the arrangements made by them for door-to-door garbage collection work before taking over from JITF Company from May 1.

Now, the MCB is waiting for April 3, which is the next date for the hearing of the case.

The NGT, in the last hearing, had directed the MCB to submit a compliance report within a week and if it turned out to be unsatisfactory that Rs 50,000 penalty would be imposed on the MCB.

Sources said the MCB in its report has stated that it has started the work of garbage collection on its own on trail basis in a few areas. It had also floated a tender for giving the work of garbage collection in two zones on contract. A contractor had also showed interest in doing the work.

The MCB has also written in its report that they have made two plans. In the first plan, they have proposed to do the work on their own and in the second one they plan to outsource it.

The MCB has planned to purchase 60 Tata Ace vehicles, which will be used for the work. It has also got approval for both plans from the general house. For purchasing these vehicles, the MCB will use Swachh Bharat Abhiyan funds.

It also learnt that the MCB has also given information regarding tipping fee paid to JITF Company.

In the last hearing of the case on March 19, a three-member bench had instructed the MCB to submit a compliance report regarding the preparations made for the door-to-door garbage collection work within a week or face penalty of Rs 50,000.

In the judgment, the bench had stated that Punjab had to comply in the matter relating to two regions — Amritsar and Bathinda — but it had failed in compliance of the directions in the specifically issued order dated January 16.
