GZSCCET bags first position in north zone in karting meet

BATHINDA: Students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology (GZSCCET), Bathinda, bagged the first position in the north zone and 10th at the All-India level in the Imperial Society of Innovative Engineers Indian Karting 2016 championship.

Students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology (GZSCCET), Bathinda, bagged the first position in the north zone and 10th at the All-India level in the Imperial Society of Innovative Engineers Indian Karting 2016 championship.

A team of Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) of the college participated in the championship held at Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, recently.

As many as 63 teams from 17 states participated in the event. The event was organised by Indian Go-Kart, affiliated to the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI).

The race was inaugurated by the only Indian female International Kart racer Mira Erda. The team has also been awarded with ISIE Future award and a cash prize of Rs 40,000. The team was comprised of 20 students, including Jaidev Sharma (captain), Kharak Singh (driver and vice-captain and team manager Abhishek Kumar.

The students had designed and fabricated a car, Go Kart, a version of a Formula 1 racing car, competed at the competition. The car was tested for its speed, balance, cost, safety and fuel efficiency.

The event was divided into three rounds. The first round was a virtual round in which the team gave a presentation regarding design, breaking, steering and transmission system.

All design calculation were done by using solid works software to make Go Kart stable in dynamic conditions and also to provide aesthetics to resemble the Formula-1 racing vehicle.

The Power Transmission system is very precisely designed from the racing point of view.

Flexible break and acceleration peddles provided the super flexibility to feet while driving the vehicle.

The students were trained in an automobile workshop, organised on the campus. They are regularly participating in such events on regular basis, said a spokesperson of the college.

The team participated under the guidance of professor Rajesh Gupta, associate professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Sukhmander Singh, a workshop instructor.
