BATHINDA: On the first day of the 62nd (U-14) Punjab State School Handball Games hosts started their campaign with a win.

On the first day of the 62nd (U-14) Punjab State School Handball Games hosts started their campaign with a win. In the first match of boys’ category, Bathinda drubbed Barnala 21-10.

In other matches, Ferozepur defeated Rupnagar 23-15, while Moga beat Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar 20-11. Mansa thrashed Hoshiarpur 13-1 and Amritsar drubbed Jalandhar 14-6.

In girls’ category, Fazilka edge past Moga 5-4 and Mansa defeated Jalandhar 9-1. Ludhiana defeated Ropar 8-6 in a close contest while Amritsar beat Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar 7-5.

The games are being played at St Xavier’s School in which 600 players in 30 teams (boys and girls) are participating.

Earlier, District Education Officer Dr Amarjit Kaur Kotfatta inaugurated the games by unfurling the Punjab School Games flag.

While addressing the players, she inspired the players to play with the sportsmanship spirit.

Father Eulalio Fernandes, Principal of St Xavier’s School, was the special guest during the opening ceremony. He also interacted with the players.

Assistant Education Officer, sports, Pavittar Kaur welcomed the guests and gave best wishes to participents.
