In-laws booked for abetment of suicide

A case of abetment of suicide has been registered against in-laws of Simranjit Kaur, who belongs to Ratanpura village in Hanumangarh distirct of Rajasthan.

Simranjit Kaur was married to Karamdeep Singh, a resident of Chak Hera Singh Wala village in Rama Mandi.

She had committed suicide by setting herself on fire at her in-laws house after she was allegedly harassed by them for bringing more dowry.

As per information, Simranjit Kaur set herself on fire on the night of March 23.

Later, her relatives took her to the Civil Hospital, from where she was referred to a private hospital in the city. She died on the evening of March 24 after battling with life.

The Rama police station has registered a case against four persons on the basis of the statement of the brother of the deceased and started a probe in the case.

The accused have not been arrested yet. The body of the deceased has been given to the family members after conducting post-mortem.

In a statement given to police, Tikka Singh, a resident of Ratanpura village in Rajasthan and brother of the deceased, has stated that around 11 months ago, his sister Simranjit Kaur got married to Karamdeep Singh.

He said they had spent around Rs 25 lakh on the wedding and had given home appliances, along with some cash to the in-laws.

Tikka Singh alleged that after some time of the marriage, the in-laws of her sister started harassing her over dowry.

A few months ago, his brother in-law Karamdeep Singh was arrested by the police in a murder case and he had been in the Bathinda jail for the last three months, he added.

After that, her in-laws started pressuring her for brining money from her parents to get their son out of jail, he said.

He alleged that as she didn’t bring more money, she her in-laws beat her up. Unable to bear physical torture, she ended her life, he added.

Investigation officer ASI Gurmej Singh said they had registered a case under Sections 304 B, 498 A, 506 and 34 of the IPC at Rama police station on the basis of the statement of the brother of the deceased against accused husband Karamdeep Singh, her sister in-law Kirandeep Kaur, mother in-law and father in-law Jagtar Singh.
