TMC state president and former MP Jagmeet Singh Brar today said the election for the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat would be a referendum against the BJP-led NDA government over its demonetisation move.
He gave a call to opposition parties, including AAP, Congress, Left and others, to join hands against the SAD-BJP alliance.
Brar said the joint candidature could play an important role in painting a new picture for the 2019 general elections.
Replying to a query on the Assembly elections, Brar said there would be a revolt in the Congress after the announcement of their third list, after which TMC would announce tickets for their remaining seats.
He said the party had called a meeting of their executive and core committee on January 11 to decide about the candidates.
On the question over alliance with AAP, Jagmeet Brar claimed that he was still hopeful for the last-minutes alliance as AAP, he said, would lose 27 seats in the Malwa region if it didn’t go in alliance with them.
Brar said he want to see the AAP-TMC alliance form the government in the best interest of the state.
Over the arrest of TMC MP for his alleged involvement in a scam, Brar alleged that it was witch-hunting as Narendra Modi sees Mamta Banerjee as a national alternative against him after the party protest against demonetisation.
Jagmeet inducted and welcomed the AAP vice-president of grievance committee and Punjab leader Amrit Gill into the party hold and appointed her TMC state women campaign convener.
While interacting with the media, Amrit Gill lashed out at AAP over ‘wrong’ ticket distribution.
She said earlier, AAP leaders used to claim that they would change the state by putting an end to corruption and the drug menace but now, it seemed that they had derailed from their vision.
AAP has started playing with religion and manipulating politics due to which she has decided to part ways with the party and join the TMC, she added.
