The Mansa police today traced a missing child—a student of Class VIII— who reached Chandigarh last night on a two-wheeler. The child had locked his mother and grandmother in their house after having heated arguments over the issue of studying.

Mansa SSP Parambir Parmar said the boy was the only son of a teacher couple residing on Lalluana Road in Mansa city. “The parents reached Mansa City-II police station around 4.30 pm on Wednesday and narrated the entire incident after which a special team of five policemen, including a DSP and an SHO, was formed,” the SSP said.

The parents told the police that their son took away some clothes in his school bag, an ATM card and Honda Activa Scooty.

“We got the first clue when an SMS about withdrawing Rs 4,000 cash from a Corporation Bank's ATM arrived in the missing boy's parent's cell phone. The SMS stated that the money was withdrawn from an ATM in Patiala,” the SSP said.

“While our team was still searching for him in all the market places surrounding the ATM machine in Patiala, the Chandigarh police control room reported that a child on a two-wheeler was found roaming aimlessly near the IT Park,” the SSP said.

The police party was then directed to reach the Manimajra police station from where the child was brought back to Mansa.
