Bathinda, November 21
Following the instructions of the Municipal Commissioner, building branch officials of the MCB today sealed the basement of two private hospitals in the city — Nivaran Hospital and Gagan Gastro Hospital located on the North Estate road.
The MCB also sealed the rooms of the hospitals, which were constructed more than the approval given in the map.
As per MCB officials, the basements of both hospitals were constructed for parking purposes, but instead of parking, both were using it for commercial activities.
After getting the complaint, the building branch had sent a notice to the hospitals thrice, stating them to turn basements into parking area and demolish the construction done against the approved map.
However, the hospitals managements, not taking the MCB notice seriously, did not stop the commercial activities and neither demolished the illegal construction done by them.
The building branch of the MCB had issued notice under section 269 (1) of the Municipal Act 1976 on October 4 to the two hospitals.
In the notices, it was stated that both hospitals had done construction by going against the building approved by the MCB, which is violation of the building by-laws and Punjab Municipal Corporation Act of 1976.
To remove the illegal construction, the MCB through a letter number 385, had also written a letter on September 5 but they did not give any reply.
In the notice they also gave a two-day warning to give their reply or action would be initiated against the building.
The MCB has launched a crackdown on the illegal buildings in the city.
