Bathinda, February 22
The Municipal Corporation of Bathinda has started tightening the noose against those found to be littering public places.
The sanitation wing of the MCB has constituted teams which keep an eye on people to curb the practice. These teams have already begun issuing fine to violators.
The MCB has started the drive following the directions issued by the National Green Tribunal. Sanitation Department chief inspector Satish Kumar said as per the NGT directions, apart from stopping the people from littering roads and streets, challans will also be issued to those who indulge in heaping debris by the roadside during construction of buildings.
The inspector said the MCB was following the directions religiously and the teams have issued 174 challans between February 1 and 21.
A higher number of challans have been handed out to people at Bhatti road, GT road, Bathinda-Barnala highway, Paras Ram Nagar and Pratap Nagar.
While conducting surprise checks, the MCB teams directed the contractors at constructions sites to make sure that the debris is not thrown in empty plots or heaped by the roadsides.
The nursery owners were also directed to keep their potted plants inside the nursery rather than exhibiting them outside the nursery.
Meanwhile, the MCB drive to curb the menace of open defecation is also on. The MCB teams have been regularly visiting the railway tracks and slum areas to keep a check on it.
In the past 21 days, 133 challans have been issued to those flouting the rules and not using public toilets. — TNS
