Bathinda, January 19

Incidents of newly installed dustbins either being stolen or damaged by miscreants have started pouring in.

One such incident has been reported from near the railway station, where some unidentified persons had taken away one side door of the new dustbin installed there. Later, MC officials, fearing theft of more dustbins, have removed and kept them with the MC. While upper portion from where garbage is thrown inside the dustbin has also got damaged at various points in the city.

Ahead of Swachhta Survey 2018, around 250 new dustbins were installed in the city at a cost of around Rs 22 lakh. The money from Swachh Bharat Abhiyan fund was utilized for this project.

Mayor Balwant Rai Nath said he is surprised that why people do this as they installed new dustbins for the betterment and beautification of the city. He appealed to people that they should cooperate and immediately inform MCB if they see any one damaging or taking away these dustbins as huge hard earned pubic money is used in purchasing these dustbins.

Senior deputy mayor Tarsem Goyal said this was unnecessary expenditure done by the MCB as from day one it was clear that people will not leave these dustbins as we seen earlier as well when mostly all the dustbins out of 180 dustbins were stolen or damaged in the city.
