Bathinda, March 30
Huge rush of customers was witnessed today at motorcycle showrooms in the city after companies announced heavy discount and slashed prices by Rs 10,000 to 15,000.
The companies have taken this decision after the Supreme Court banned sale and registration of BS-III model vehicles from April 1.
An official from TVS Shakti Auto said they had sold the whole stock of TVS Victor by the evening and even the sale of Apache and sports models also saw a jump.
Even officials at the Honda showroom sold their Activa and motorcycle stock and shut their shutters by the evening.
Sukhdeep Singh, a customer, said he had come to buy TVS Victor motorcycle as he received a call from the company office stating that they were offering huge discount.
He said it was not a bad deal to buy it at a discount of Rs 10,000.
A company official said, “We are not left with the any option as the company head office has announced discount. So, we have to sell our whole stock by tomorrow.”
The Supreme Court, observing that the health of the people was far more important than the commercial interests of the manufacturers, stated that automobile firms had declined to take sufficient pro-active steps despite being fully aware that they would be required to manufacture only BS-IV compliant vehicles from April 1. — TNS
