Bathinda, November 17

Members of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) Union have announced to intensify their protest over their demand for regularisation of services. The union members have also called a state-level meeting on November 19 in Jalandhar to discuss their future plans.

Recently, when the government had announced to regularise around 30,000 employees then the union members thanked the government. However, it remained unclear about the employees who were regularised by the government.

The union claims that a total of over 4,000 employees who have worked over three years are yet to be confirmed whether they are regularised or not. They were demanding that the Punjab Government should make an announcement regarding their regularisation in the recently held emergency Assembly session on November 16. However, after failed to get any response from the state government, the employees have decided chalk out their future strategy.

Dr Inderjit Singh Rana, a member of the NRHM Employees’ Association, said, “We have called a state-level meeting and will decide further action in it. We will intensify our protest as the government has failed to fulfill its promise.”

Earlier, these employees held a hunger strike and staged a protest for 13 days in Chandigarh over their demand for regularisation.

Narinder Kumar, state convener of the NRHM Employees’ Association Punjab said, “The government has not made it clear that whether all NRHM employees in Punjab have been regularised or not. We will intensify our protest against the present state government for making false promises.”
