Bathinda, January 20

A team of Swachta Survey 2018 today again conducted checking in various areas of the city and also took feedback from people in the city.

An official of Karvy Consultant, nodal agency of the Urban Development Ministry, today conducted field checking at Teenkoni, Veer Colony, Amrik Singh road, Kamla Nehru colony, Basant Vihar, Guru Nanakpura Mohalla, Ganesha Basti, Kartar Basti, Bhatti road, fish market, fruit market, Mati Dass Nagar, ITI and other areas in the city.

The team also visited solid waste management plant on Mansa road and checked the working of the plant and how garbage is disposed. Later, the team visited Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP), Cargill company, Zee Mount Litera school and Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) and checked the sanitation condition.

The team checked the condition of public toilets, dustbins and sanitation conditions of the roads. The team clicked the photographs on phone on the spot and uploaded on the software to the ministry of urban development.

Official asked the residents about the door to door collection of the garbage and also checked segregation of the garbage.

It is pertinent to mention that though the Municipal Corporation (MC) authorities have tried hard to improve the city’s ranking this year, but it will certainly not be an easy task.

The reason is that this time around 4,000 cities and towns across India will be surveyed and ranks will be given by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, as per the set criteria as last year survey was conducted within 400 cities.

In the survey, there are 1,200 marks of direct observation. Slums, old areas, unplanned and plan areas have 50 points. Public toilets and their condition have 260 points.

Sanitation in commercial areas has 50 points; cleanliness and signboards have 140 points; public toilets at the railway station and in nearby areas have 230 points; and sewerage connections have 400 points.

The team conducting the survey has to give marks on the basis of solid waste management, awareness and behavioural change, garbage processing, public-community toilets, toilets in every house, door-to-door garbage collection, sweeping and transportation.

MCB officials worked overtime the swachhta survey campaign to get first rank in the state leaving behind Mohali, which topped state in last year’s survey and Bathinda remained second.
