BATHINDA: A person sustained injuries in a firing incident that took place today over a personal dispute between two groups of painters.

A person sustained injuries in a firing incident that took place today over a personal dispute between two groups of painters.

Two shots were fired in the incident that occurred in Kheta Singh Basti falling under the Thermal police station.

The accused were migrant labourers from Bihar and were living at Balla Ram Nagar.

Gurmeet Singh, a resident of Burj Mehma, was seriously injured and referred to Adesh Hospital by doctors of the Civil Hospital.

Two accused, out of four, were identified as Kaali and Nitish. All of them are absconding after the attack.

Gurmeet Singh works as a painter. He had gone to meet his friend Jagdeep Singh, a resident of Kheta Singh Basti.

After the meeting, he and his two friends were going for some work when four persons came on two motorcycles. Those riding pillion on the bikes were carrying revolvers.

Gurmeet Singh suffered a bullet injury in his stomach while another gunshot hit the car. After firing, the accused fled from the spot.

Gurmeet and Kaali had worked together in the past and there was a dispute between them.

They had even assaulted each other. Senior police official visited the spot after the incident.

Shiv Kumar, SHO of the Thermal police station, said the Kaali group wanted to take revenge from Gurmeet and therefore they planned the attack.

A case under Sections 307 of the IPC and 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the accused.

The police conducted raids at various places but failed to arrest anyone.
