Residents of Street No. 1 to Street No. 20 of Pratap Nagar have been facing many problems due to the overflowing sewerage in many residential areas of the city.

The perturbed residents allege that despite giving many notices to the Municipal Corporation no concrete steps have been taken so far, because of which we are facing lots of problems.

Gurjant Singh, a resident, said, “Street No. 1 to Street No. 20 of Pratap Nagar is the main way to enter and exit the residential area, but for the past many days on each day overflowing sewage issue always comes in the notice. Moreover, some accidents have also occurred in the area due to the problem.”

Sushil Garg, another resident, said, “Sometimes, the circumstances become so worse that one cannot even breathe. Above all, who want to see lots of dirty water and garbage in front of their houses in the early morning which emanates a foul smell? The authorities concerned have to understand the public problem rather than delaying or ignoring it”.

Municipal Councillor Sukhwinder Kaur said, “Many times we have lodged complaints regarding the overflowing sewerage with the Municipal Corporation and Triveni company, but to no avail”.

Sometimes, the MC employees come to mend the sewerage pipes, but after two or three days the problem resurfaces and starts annoying residents. Now, we have decided to surround the MC office and protest against them until they will provide us the concrete solution to the problem in the area. Moreover, we will also intimate the local MLA Manpreet Singh Badal related to the sewage overflow problem in the city,” she added.

Mayor Balwant Rai Nath said, “I was not aware of the problem related to the overflowing sewage in various parts of Pratap Nagar, but now it has come to my notice and very soon all problems would be resolved.”
