In a major relief to the suspected patients of cancer visiting the Bhai Mani Singh Civil Hospital, Advanced Cancer Institute has decided to extend them the facility of MRI and CT scan along with various other costly diagnostic tests.

The cancer institute and Civil Hospital have decided that the latter may send its patients to the institute for the diagnostic tests which are not available at the Civil Hospital. However, these will be done after the approval of Civil Hospital’s SMO.

When contacted, MK Mahajan, Director, cancer institute, said, “When Bathinda Tribune highlighted the issue of patients belonging to the poor background are facing difficulties in getting diagnostic tests done at private labs, we decided to extend a helping hand to them.”

He said after a formal meeting with Civil Surgeon Hari Narayan Singh, it had been decided that suspected patients of cancer would be provided with the facility of MRI, CT scan, radiotherapy and ECG tests at the institute.”

Civil Surgeon Hari Narayan Singh, said, “I have asked the SMOs concerned to direct the medical officers to refer such cases to Advanced Cancer Institute so that patients belonging to the poor background may also avail these diagnostic tests at nominal rates.”

Besides, patients will not need to spend a huge amount of money at private centres to avail such costlier diagnostic tests, he added.
