Bathinda, March 14

Members’ of the Sanjha Teachers Morcha, today marched towards the office of Finance Minister Manpreet Badal’s to gherao it in the city. However, the police stopped them a few meters away from the office.

Irked protesters started raising slogans against the state government and the minister. They lifted their dharna later after submitting a memorandum to the tehsildar.

Morcha leaders said teachers were facing problems as they had not got their salaries since December.

They said they were also against Rs 10,300 salary fixed for them for three years.

They demanded that the state government should immediately release the salaries of the teachers. Since some teachers were the sole breadwinners of their families, they were finding it hard to make both ends meet, they said.

Lashing out at the Congress government, they claimed that during elections, they were promising to give a job in every house and now they were not paying salaries to teachers and other government employees.

The ministers and their advisors are getting hefty salaries and that too on time, they added.
