Poems rediscover ‘island called self’

BATHINDA: Writers International foundation organised a felicitation function at Guru Kashi Public School to release ‘Emerging From The Shadows’, an anthology of poems penned by Prabhjot Kaur.

Bathinda, March 31

Writers International foundation organised a felicitation function at Guru Kashi Public School to release ‘Emerging From The Shadows’, an anthology of poems penned by Prabhjot Kaur.

Prof Brahm Jagdish Singh was the chief guest while Dr JS Anand, chairman of the foundation, presided over the function.

Prof Brahm Jagdish Singh, while congratulating the poet on the publication of her first volume of poetry, observed that although her maiden attempt, Prabhjot Kaur had shown great maturity of thought and expression in her poetry. “Such poetry is the stuff which should be made available to our young minds, so that they can feel what lies at the bottom of the river of life,” he said.

Dr Anand, speaking on the issues touched in the poems of Prabhjot Kaur, said it was like rediscovering the island called ‘self’.

Quoting Wallace Stevens, he said “The purpose of poetry is to contribute to man’s happiness. Poetry needs no justification beyond the sheer splendour of its own existence,” he said. Principal Ranjit Kaur, Guru Kashi Public School, was the guest of honour.

Writers International, in its commitment to give a fillip to literary values, conferred award of honour on Prabhjot Kaur for her extraordinary poetic skills. — TNS
