The CIA-2 wing of the Bathinda police today claimed to have busted a gang of vehicle-lifters active in Bathinda, Faridkot and Muktsar. They stole two-wheelers and four-wheelers in the past few months.

Three members of the gang were arrested and three are absconding. The police have recovered three cars, five motorcycles and one Activa scooty.

A case under Sections 379, 411 and 120-B of the IPC has been registered against the accused at the Civil Lines police station.

Addressing mediapersons, Tarjinder Singh, in-charge of the CIA-2 wing of the Bathinda police, claimed that a team of the CIA-2 wing led by sub inspector Jagroop Singh was present at Maheshwari chowk on the 100-feet road.

They received a tip-off that Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Taamkot village in Muktsar, Hardeep Singh alias Shonki, Inderjeet Singh alias Bhau, residents of Dabra village in Muktsar, Rajiv Kumar, a resident of Baba Deep Singh Nagar, Bathinda, Kamaldeep Singh, a resident of Rampura Phul, and Prince Bhayia, a resident of Muktsar had formed a gang.

Members of the gang were active in stealing vehicles in Bathinda city, Muktsar, Malout, Kotkapura and Faridkot. Gurpreet was the kingpin.

Tarjinder Singh added that all members were drug addicted and after stealing the vehicles, they sold these by changing number plates.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by SI Jagroop Singh conducted raids near Maheshwari chowk and arrested Gurpreet Singh, Hardeep Singh and Rajiv Kumar.

During interrogation, the police recovered two Verna cars, one Zen car, five motorcycles and one Active scooty (without number). Nine cases of theft have been traced with the arrest of the accused and the police also shared detail with other police districts.

Tarjinder Singh said two Verna cars were stolen from Kotkapura (Faridkot) and Rupana village (Muktsar) and the Zen car was stolen from a local hospital in Bathinda.

Investigating officer SI Jagroop Singh said all three were produced in a court today, which send them to on two-day police remand. Police teams are conducting raids for the arrest of the rest of the three accused.
